Chicago’s Lava Lounge played host to various electronic dance music weeklies throughout 2005 and 2006. But as March 2006 came to a close, Lava decided it was time to close its doors and reopen in a new part of town. “[The venue] has been running for 80 years and has changed ownership many times. It has become a little run-down as a result. The expansion is going to give everyone that comes to Lava an updated experience,” says general manager and music director Brian Sarpalius, known to drum ’n bass fans as Phantom 45.
As the owners of Lava, Bass by the Pound hosted “The Seminar” every Wednesday, bringing in various local, national and international talent. “The Last Call” took place on March 29. “The Seminar will start back up when we reopen in September. As the G.M. of a club/lounge, I want the best for the patrons. The new spot will showcase the next level in music and comfort.”
