From the Southside of Chicago, comes the lone female MC repping Rhymesayers Entertainment. The friendly, outgoing word assassin admits to having a "tiger's mentality when it comes to burning MCs" but still Psalm One does have a 'pussycat' side as well.

She bucks the trend of female MCs who boast of sex exploits and material wants. "When I came out I wanted my lyrics to stick to people, make them think," she said.

And coming with force in a strong, gritty style on "Standby" off her recent Rhymesayers release, "The Death of The Frequent Flyer," which dropped last month she says, "It's hard for sure, but that's how I came out." The chem degree grad broke out in 2002 with a freshman offering titled "Bio: Chemistry" and then followed that while working with fellow Chicagoan Overflo who helped with production of "Bio: Chemistry II."

During this period, Psalm One's skills were honed and battle tested by her compatriots Diverse, Blueprint, Atmosphere, Brother Ali and others.

Earning her moniker from the book of Psalms she says, "I am a writer/ storyteller, I started out writing poems and lyrics before I picked up the mic or performed."

It's apparent that this rising MC is all b-girl unmistakably. Hear it in her voice when talking about eating MCs ... "Any true MC must be able to eat another MC during a battle." With Psalm's pension for lyrical variation, it's easy to see how she backs up that statement.

And being the sole female presence for Rhymesayers is something she relishes: "I try not to think about it much, but I know I have a blessed opportunity to work with other artists/friends who are more like family."
