Among such names as Larry Burden, Scan 7, Rob Hood and Jeff Mills of Detroit’s history, some new faces have started turning heads in the Motor City. Wearing their signature black T-shirts, the Detroit Techno Militia was out in full force this year at DEMF. Originally, the loosely knit group of DJs/producers of the Detroit and Lansing, Michigan-area came together to work as one collective producing and releasing mixes under the DTM blanket. In July, DTM signed a two to three-year deal as a sub-label of Cratesavers Muzik. Its members include Andy Hegler, Annix, Dan Lucas, Darkcube, Der Mercenary, Dimitri Pike, Doc, Loner9, Mitch Walcott, Neil V., Sougon and T.Linder and each represent their own niche of the genre. The collective is now housed in a new office in the Submerged building — “the administrative hub for Detroit’s independent dance music labels” — in Detroit. “Detroit is a hard scene if you want to make it you really have to push the edge, you have to have something that grabs people’s attention,” says DTM member Tres Luceitti.
