It couldn’t have happened in a more unlikely — or serene — place. Nestled in the hilly farmland of southern Ohio near the tiny town of McArthur, the world-reknowned Write4Gold aerosol art competition made its only U.S. stop, here — as the main attraction of Freedom Festival 2006 produced by Stealth Entertainment. With clear blue skies and temperatures soaring in the high 90s, seven crews from across the U.S. battled the heat and each other for the $5,000 first prize and a trip to Germany where the winner would advance to the World Finals. Graffiti legends T-Kid, Cope 2 and Core judged the event which also included tagging, throwups, sketching and breakdancing as well as flexing their own style too. The Bad crew of NYC claimed first place following the theme ‘natural disasters.’ Other hip-hop acts including RJD2 and Archetype provided a musical back drop later in the evening. Fireworks rounded out the outdoor camping event amid such DJs as T-1000, Heather Heart and Titonton Duvante.
